  • 本末是中国哲学史的一对范畴。“本”是指宇宙本源或本体，“末”是指天地万物。魏晋玄学主张“以无为本”。王弼认为形形色色的个别存在物（有）是现象（末），而在现象之后有更根本的东西是万物的本体（本），这种“本”、“末”关系是母子关系，“木在无为，在无名，离本舍母而适其子，功虽大焉，必有不济”（《 老子注 》三十八章）。“本”是虚寂的本体，也就是“无”或“道” , “寂然至无是其本矣”，而有形、有名的万物是从“无”或“道”所派生，故提倡“崇本息末”。
